Tottenham preparing Premier League title push? Ange Postecoglou hints Spurs will be active in January transfer window as they look to cling onto top spot
Ange Postecoglou has advised Tottenham to move quickly during the January transfer window in order to position themselves to challenge for the Premier League championship. Postecoglou calls on Spurs to make additions, anticipates a new hiring team, and hopes to continue challenging for the championship.
AHEAD OF TIME?Spurs’ redesigned recruitment team is beginning to take shape, and if they are still in the running for the Premier League title, the staff is expected to be busy in January. Johan Lange started as technical director on Wednesday, and Rob Mackenzie will take over as chief scout the following week.
“It is important they come in now. The January window, like for every club, is an important one,” said the Australian head coach at a press conference. “My view on the January one is that if you can get your business done early in the window it certainly is more helpful because you leave it until the end of January and sometimes what you train to gain you’ve missed that opportunity by waiting a whole month. That’s sometimes out of your control so having Johan in is good. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of discussions between now and then and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
When asked if he would want a budget similar to Chelsea’s or other elite teams, Postecoglou responded, “It has been shown time and time again that spending limitless amounts of money to acquire the finest players is not the solution. The solution is to create the ideal environment for your squad, or team, so that 24 players are dedicated to the same goal. If you simply have the top 24 players in the world, I don’t think you can accomplish it. That’s not a headache I want at all.”
Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, and Pedro Porro were all last-minute additions to the Spurs this season, having come on deadline day in January 2022, despite the fact that the team had strengthened in the winter window the previous two seasons.

Even though Tottenham Hotspur had a great summer transfer window, they still need some defensive reinforcement.
The north London team features one of the strongest tandems in the Premier League in Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven, but they also have a very weak back line.
Luckily, assistance may be on the way as the January transfer window approaches.
