What Joe Rodon did immediately after seeing Patrick Bamford miss his penalty last night

Rodon visibly angry at Bamford miss

Rodon’s response encapsulates the sentiments of every Leeds supporter, since it seemed clear what would happen as soon as he got hold of the ball.

The past three penalties Bamford has attempted for Leeds have now been missed, and they have all lost the team points in crucial circumstances.

There is no way that Bamford should have been going up to take it, given his performance over the last 12 to 18 months. After all, it was a really self-serving play.

Even though it’s early in the season, Leeds has lost ground on the top two this evening, meaning they won’t automatically qualify.

In related development:

Bamford gave Leeds the opportunity to take the lead moments after entering the game as he was brought down by Stoke midfielder Ben Pearson, prompting Paul Tierney to point to the spot.

As he looks to score his first goal of the year, Hamford declared he would accept the penalty as soon as it was given.

After Bamford’s penalty went miles over the crossbar with the score at 0-0, Leeds lost the match and Stoke took the lead thanks to an own goal by Strijb.

Summerville asked Struijk to take the pen

Now that Bamford has missed his previous three spot kicks for Leeds, the team has suffered losses in pivotal situations from both of them.

It was barely over a year ago, against Arsenal, that he missed his first. Leeds would have likely earned a fantastic point if he had scored, but they lost 1-0 instead.

Then, in May, Bamford also missed a big penalty against Newcastle United, which would have given Leeds a 2-0 lead in a pivotal calculation in their attempt to avoid dropping points. It finished in a 2-2 draw.

Given how insecure he is, Bamford made a very self-centered decision that has once again hurt his team at a pivotal time. His performance from the spot is awful.

Conversely, Summerville exudes confidence following his two goals against Norwich City and his final penalty kick for Leeds in the shootout loss to Salford City back in August.
