He is said to be a big Spurs fan. As Spurs consider a move for one “incredible” star, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou reportedly wants to “replace” two of his players.
Spurs’ form under Postecoglou
Nobody could have predicted Postecoglou would have such a strong start to the season or that Spurs would be off to their best start since their double win in 1961. Six of their first eight league games have ended in victories for the Lilywhites, who are now atop the Premier League standings and have gone unbeaten during that time. Tottenham had extremely difficult tests during that time against teams like Arsenal and Liverpool, but they triumphed in both games with no hesitation or deterrence.
Last month, after their 2-2 draw against Arsenal on the road at the Emirates Stadium, Postecoglou praised his Tottenham players for having a developing ambition to work together to become a better unit.
“There’s a real will and desire to become the team we want to be, which includes making sure that you’re disciplined and you’re buying into the team ethos and we had a really young team out there,” said Postecoglou to Tottenham’s official website.
“Vic, that’s his first derby, Destiny, van de Ven, Pape Matar Sarr, Brennan, they’re all in their early twenties, Porro, even Kulusevski is only 23, so it was a young team but just super proud of the experienced players we did have in there. Romero was outstanding, Bissouma has been brilliant all year, Maddison, and Sonny was just on a different level, not just his goals, although they were outstanding, but his work rate, his work ethic was incredible.”
Who could Spurs sign in January?
Although the north Londoners are in fantastic form right now, it has been rumored that they may make a move to bolster their numbers in the coming year. Al-Ittihad winger Jota is one of the alleged transfer targets and may very possibly be moving back to Europe after spending very little time in Saudi Arabia.
There are rumors that the former Celtic star is eager to work with his ex-boss again at Tottenham (90min), and it is assumed that Postecoglou feels the same way. This has been clarified by a recent report from writer Rudy Galetti, who shared a Jota transfer update for Tribal Football. He claims that Tottenham is interested in signing Jota next year since Postecoglou’s “priority” is to “replace” both Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon on that side with another player.
Beyond that, nothing else is offered, but we think Jota would make a great replacement for the Spurs duo. Alan Hutton, a pundit, admitted in a speech last year that he is a huge admirer of the “incredible” Portuguese.
“Jota’s only 23-years-old, he’s still developing,” explained Hutton.
“He’s probably only going to get better, I think he can get better. What he’s done this season has been incredible, for him to come from his parent club, where he’s not really been playing. Benfica are a big club in their own right but to come to another club where there’s a lot of pressure, to perform at such a young age, he’s stood up to that task.
