Tottenham make contact with club for player who Toby Alderweireld believes is a rare talent
The Under-21 international from Belgium made his Antwerp debut last season and has already established himself as a regular this year after starting all fifteen games across all competitions and contributing one goal (transfermarkt).
Tottenham is not the only team keeping tabs on the midfielder; reports have it that Arsenal and Manchester City are also interested in the 18-year-old.
Tottenham are interested in Arthur Vermeeren
Toby Alderweireld, a former central defender for Tottenham who now plays for the Belgian team with Vermeeren, has been impressed by the influence of the young player and thinks he has a promising future in the game.
Accordng to Alderweireld, Football Transfers:
“He arrived in the [Antwerp] team by force of circumstance, but since then he has learned very quickly. He reads the game very well, his potential is enormous. Have I seen this before? Rarely, I think.”
Following the hiring of Fabio Paratici, Tottenham’s recruitment of young starlets has undoubtedly improved, with Pape Matar Sarr serving as the best illustration of a player the club signed while he was still a teenager and is now reaping the rewards.
In the upcoming seasons, it is hoped that the recent additions of Alejo Veliz and Ashley Phillips will help the next group of players break into the starting lineup.
