Johan Lange, the newly appointed sports director at Tottenham, is apparently working on the team’s first acquisition with the intention of strengthening the defense.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven make up a strong defensive duo for Tottenham right now, but their team’s depth is still an issue.

The depth of the Spurs team is a concern, though. Ange Postecoglou is seriously lacking defensive alternatives as a result of the summer departures of players like Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Japhet Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez, and Sergio Reguilon.

Only Eric Dier, a senior option who hasn’t been able to wow Ange, is available as a backup center-back. He hasn’t played a single game for Spurs this year, and he’ll probably go on his own terms in the summer.

While Spurs may also call on young defender Ashley Phillips, who they acquired from Blackburn in the summer, Ben White is another improvised alternative who can be used as a center-back if necessary.

But it is a known fact that Spurs will be searching for a new center-back during the forthcoming January transfer window.

The name Lloyd Kelly has been associated with Spurs ever since they were linked to Bournemouth in the summer.

Football London claims that Spurs will rekindle their interest in the Bournemouth defender in January.

The former England Under-21 international can now be signed by Tottenham for a far lower transfer fee because of his contract position, according to the report.

However, the source says that Liverpool and Newcastle, two teams that are interested in signing the center-back, would put up a fight for his services.

In order to avoid losing Kelly on a free transfer in the summer of 2024, Bournemouth might be willing to sell for a lower price in January when he enters the final six months of his contract.

Spurs will have the chance to improve their defensive options and address issues with squad depth during this January transfer window.
