Cristian Romero reveals hilarious new Micky van de Ven nickname after Tottenham win vs Liverpool
Micky van de Ven, who joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in the summer, has been a great addition to their defense.
Cristiano Romero has unveiled his new nickname after Spurs’ dramatic victory over Liverpool. The Argentine defender, who joined the Lilywhites in the summer on a six-year deal from Wolfsburg for around £43m, played a key role in Spurs’ three points against Liverpool on Saturday night. He kept Mohamed Salah quiet throughout the match.
Van de Ven has now played seven times in the Premier League for Spurs, helping them to two clean sheets so far this season. The Dutch Under-21 international has been instrumental in helping the club lay the foundations for a title challenge – so much so that Romero has rewarded him with a new nickname!
Following Spurs’ victory over Liverpool, the Argentine wrote a post on Instagram celebrating the team’s spirit and heart.
Two messages stood out among the thousands of Spurs fans who commented on the post – one from Angel Di Maria who wrote ‘fire emojis’ and one from Van de Ven who called him ‘boss’.
“Micky Mouse [two red heart emojis],” wrote Romero in response to the Dutchman’s comment. Tottenham fans quickly approved the defender’s nickname, with over five thousand supporters liking the Argentine’s message.
After the victory over Liverpool, Postecoglou gave his assessment of the contest. “I think I’ve been careful to say that I don’t have a schedule I’m marking it against,” the Spurs manager added. What is, is what is. We’ve faced some major obstacles in the first seven weeks of the season, and I’ve been extremely happy with how we’ve handled them, especially today.
“Obviously you want to put the game to bed earlier than when we did but sometimes when you score that late it just helps to continue to build that belief in the group and the spirit within the group that we have that in us to go to the last minute. All these things, they’re not by design, it’s just the nature of the game and I’m not sitting here thinking we’re ahead of some schedule.”
“I can understand why some people might have had that in their minds because they’re making prognostications based on the information they have, but for me it’s just not of interest because I don’t know how far we can go with the group. We just need to keep pushing on.”
