Johnson won’t play against Liverpool

Brennan is out of action this week due to a minor injury, according to the Welshman’s official Twitter account.

“Brennan has a minor injury, but it’s not a major one, so he’ll be out this week,” the Welshman’s Twitter account reported.

It is a huge blow to the club that Johnson will not be involved in this game. The left wing-back could have enjoyed a starring role on the left wing against Joe Gomez and, of course, the ever-improving defence of Liverpool.

However, it’s hardly a shock that Johnson is out. Earlier this week, the £50m man was diagnosed with a torn muscle in his left thigh, according to the Football Manager’s official website.

“He had a scan this week,” Gold said on the latest edition of the ‘Gold’ and ‘Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast. “It looks like that’s the problem.”

Brennan Johnson had a pre-match scan in midweek to check how he was doing. From my understanding, it was strictly precautionary. Let’s hope it was only a tight hamstring.

Even if they don’t put him in, or even if they do, I’d still like to see him playing full-back and going at Liverpool’s defence, especially away from home. Hamstring issues can be tricky and take time to heal, especially for players who rely on pace.

Fortunately, according to manager Paul Lambert, it doesn’t seem to be too serious and Johnson should be back next week against Luton. Let’s hope he can bounce back better than ever, as he was really clicking for Spurs before this injury.
