Journalist says Tottenham’s players now all call 21-year-old youngster ‘Starboy’
Tottenham Hotspur’s first-team team have all started to refer to Senegalese-born young midfielder Papoue Matar Sarr as ‘Starboy’ during training, according to journalist Alasdair Gold.
If Sarr burst onto the Premier League scene at any other club, all eyes would be on him. However, with all the excitement surrounding the whole Spurs team at the moment, Sarr’s performances have been somewhat muted.
Sarr has only played 14 times for Spurs since joining the club in the summer of 2014. Antonio Conte used him sparingly last season, denying him the chance to go on loan, but Postecoglou was determined to give everyone a chance to shine.
Sarr has taken full advantage of his opportunity and has featured in all but one of Tottenham’s league matches so far this season. It’s no surprise that Sarr’s performances have caught the attention of his Spurs team-mates and now they’re referring to him as ‘Star Boy’. He has a bright future in front of him and is shaping up to be the ideal partner for Yves Bissouema and James Maddison in the middle of the park.
