Opinion: £30m man finished at West Ham as Moyes eyes January deal for ‘elite’ teenage sensation Ousmane Diomande

It has been reported that one player has been significantly lagging behind this season, namely Nayef Aguerdo. The Moroccan was signed from Rennes for a fee of £30 million in summer 2022, and now it appears that we may have paid too much for him.

Moyes’s alleged January plan is certainly bad news for the 27-year-old centre-back…

Aguerd’s £30m spell at West Ham is coming to an end as Moyes looks to complete a deal for ‘elite’ teenage defender Ousmana Diomande. If West Ham sign Diomande from Sporting, it will be Aguerd who will be the one to go out on loan.

With Kurt Zouma as the club’s captain and more consistent than Diomande, there is no reason why Moyes will want to let him go.

Diomande is not a left-footed player but he is well-suited to playing the left-side centre-back role.

Described by Football Talent Scout as a ‘world-class talent’, the young Ivorian has all the tools to become a Premier League-quality centre-back. Strong in the air, fast on the ground and reading the game at a young age, Ousmane has real physicality and is well-suited to the tough nature of English football.
He would be an incredible signing for West Ham, but there is one Hammer who is a little worried about the links between the Sporting starlet and the Hammers. With Aguerd already under a lot of pressure to perform, if Diomande does come to the London Stadium, then Aguerd’s time at West Ham could be over.
