Paul Heckingbottom sack decision shared live on Sky Sports ahead of West Ham v Sheffield United match

Sheffield United are expected to stick with Paul Heckingbottom as their manager for next weekend’s Premier League game against West Ham, as reported by Sky Sports.

United lost 8-0 to Newcastle United on Sunday [September 24] – a club record league defeat – and with the club bottom of the league, his future has been put in doubt.

However, the Englishman is expected to be in the manager’s box at London Stadium on Saturday [30 September].

Paul Heckingbottom will be expected to take charge of Saturday’s match against West Ham, despite Monday’s 8-0 drubbing, according to an update on Monday’s managerial situation from Sky Sports News via Football Daily’s Twitter feed.

“Heckingbottom has the support of the board despite currently being bottom of the Premier League so far with no wins from six games.”

Good news

Many would not have been surprised if next season’s Premier League opponents, Sheffield United, parted ways with their manager in the wake of the defeat at Newcastle.

The result was an embarrassment for the club, who are looking certain to drop out of the top flight after only two seasons in the second tier.

The good news for West Ham is that they are retaining manager Paul Heckingbottom, and it’s difficult to see them going from strength to strength in six days.

If a new manager had been appointed, even if it were an assistant stepping into the role, United might have experienced the usual ‘new manager shake-up’.

Instead, West Ham will go into next week’s game at home favourites to bounce back after successive defeats in the league. Anything less than that will do.
