The first was a long-range Saka strike that he did well to block but somehow directed it into his own net in the first half, and then he was at it again in the second when a close-range Ben White shot hit him in the arms and led to an Arsenal penalty following a VAR referral. The decision to give the penalty might have been a bit harsh as the shot was very close range and Romero’s arm was outstretched.

It was the first time in Spurs history that a player had scored an own goal and conceded a penalty at the same time – a dubious record indeed.

This marked the first time that a Tottenham manager had managed to secure a point from the North London derby, following defeats by Arsenal in the last three games.
