Phil Hay: Leeds star ‘injured’ with treatment needed after incident v Watford

Leeds United v Watford: Phil Hay injury update
Phil Hay has confirmed that Georginio Rutger has sustained a “minor injury” after being penalised by Watford on Saturday, September 23.

Leeds went into the half-hour break level on points, but the Whites dominated the second half and scored three goals to take all three points.

The 21-year-old striker had a difficult start to the season for Daniel Farke’s side, with two shots and what could have been a goal in the first half. But Rutger turned it up after the break, embarrassing the visitors with ease at times.

Sam Byram, Jaidon Anthony, Joel Piroe and

Hay commented on the incident in a tweet (23 September):

“Great goal from Rutter, spinning away from pressure, brilliant skill, but then he was fouled and injured in the challenge, receiving treatment in the 29th minute.”

Rutter was able to continue and remained in the match for the rest of the first half. He even found himself in the referee’s book after fellow striker Joel Piroe was penalised for attempting to block a free-kick.

Without Wilfried Gnonta and Patrick Bamford, Farke’s side would have been short of genuine goalscorers.

Gelhadrt remains on the bench and has yet to demonstrate his ability to lead the Leeds frontline, meaning Farke cannot risk further injury to his forward options, at least not until Bamford is fully recovered and available to be included in the match day team.

As for Rutter, the Frenchman was again brilliant and could have scored his third goal of the campaign. It appears Farke and those in charge at Elland Road were wise to retain him despite interest in the summer.
