He may be at the end of his Spurs career, but Reguilon is already earning praise during his loan spell at Man Utd.

Reguilon has had a peculiar couple of years at Spurs. He joined the club from Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 and established himself as a regular first-team player under Jose Mourinho, but Antonio Conte did not see fit for the Spaniard in his system.

He was then sent on a season-long loan at Atletico Madrid, where he struggled with injury and only made 12 appearances and played 317 minutes.

Postecoglou took over and Reguilon was no longer guaranteed a place in the first team, so he was made available for transfer in the summer.

There seemed to be no sign of Reguilon moving on, but then Luke Shaw’s injury left the Red Devils in need of a left-back and he joined the club on a one-year loan deal with an option to extend.

Reguilon was the best player on the pitch for United

In midweek’s 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich, Sergio Reguilon started at left-back for Eric ten Hag’s side. It wasn’t a great showing for the Spurs loanee, but he was praised for his performance.

“Sergio Reguilon has been the best player for Manchester United today,” Jamie O’Hara said after the game. “I watched the game and the best thing to say about him is that he hasn’t let it get the better of him. He’s played well enough, but he hasn’t done anything special.”

Jason Cundy, co-host of Soccer Central, added: “Reguilon was outstanding.”
