Overall, the Hammers had a successful summer transfer window, with Edson Alvarez joining from Real Sociedad for a club-record fee of £134 million, while former star Declan Rice moved to Arsenal for an initial £105m.

In the meantime, speculation continues to swirl that a move for Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard may be in the offing, with the 23-year-old having been trained at Rush Green to both improve his fitness and demonstrate his value to Moyes.

It has previously been reported that Lingard is unlikely to re-sign with the club, however, reliable club source Ex has provided an update indicating that Lingard’s comeback is still a possibility. Furthermore, Ex has informed The West Ham Way that Lingard, 30, is also eager to sign a new contract after being released from Nottingham Forest in June.

“The situation with Lingard is that he is still proving his fitness, although this has to be resolved soon,” stated the club insider.

“At the end of the day it needs concluding either way as it is costing the club money – with travel, accommodation etc. A decision will come soon, and we know that the player wants the deal. However, the club don’t want to pay until he’s available for selection.”

How good is Jesse Lingard?

During his loan spell at West Ham last season, he scored nine goals and provided four assists in 16 starts in the Premier League.

“He (Lingard) looked like someone going nowhere but he’s been sensational at West Ham,” said Nigel Winterburn to The Sun in the summer of 2021. “I think there’s a conversation to be had at Man Utd as to whether he’d fit back into their plans.

“If not, he’s had this success at West Ham, so I don’t know why he’d want to sign elsewhere. He knows the club, so I think West Ham would be favourites to sign him.”
