Daniel Farke says Leeds have a player that is ‘priceless’, but he is yet to start this season

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has not played a single minute so far this season but has the support of manager Daniel Farke who said at Friday’s press conference that he is “priceless” when he is “fit and confident”.The 30-year-old impressed in pre-season with a goal against his former club Nottingham Forest, but picked up an injury against Hearts which has kept him out for the time being. He has returned to training this week and could be in contention against Watford, but it is likely that Farke will look to give the striker more game time before signing him for next weekend’s match against Southampton.

When asked about Bamford at Friday’s press conference, Farke stated that when he is in form and in rhythm, he is a “priceless” player for Leeds. However, he is cognizant of the fact that Leeds must exercise caution when dealing with him.

“We will still be careful him. This week has not been the easiest week for him to come back into training, because it has been small groups. Next week will be beneficial, we will have time on the pitch,” he said.

Koch, who joined the club on loan last summer, was among eight senior players to take advantage of the club’s relegation release clauses to leave Elland Road. He went to Frankfurt with the aim of breaking into the German National Team. However, his contract at Leeds is set to expire next summer, meaning his time with the club is effectively over.

Koch is off to a flying start in Germany, having played every minute of the eight games so far. The £13m-rated striker has been used as a centre-back in the past seven games, but on Thursday he was given a new role as Frankfurt switched to a right-back line-up.

The Dutchman was moved into the centre of the back three to replace the injured Joao Moutinho, and made an immediate impact. “Koch was absolutely outstanding”, said Frankfurt newspaper “Rundschau”, “scoring a header.”

The German site referred to the player as “Excellent” under the sub-title “Impeccable” on the “Koch” website. It was noted that the player played as a “half-right” defender, and that they always stood correctly and carefully, and were strong in the face-offs. The player scored a 2-1 victory with a header.

German media describe Leeds defender Koch as impeccable

Another masterclass from the German striker, who continues to show why he made the right decision to join Frankfurt in the first place. While there have been critics of players departing on loan – you have to give them some credit – you also have to give him some credit.

Koch has always been motivated by his dream of playing for the German national team, and with Euro 2024 fast approaching, his performance for Frankfurt will no doubt leave Germany in awe. Another masterclass.
