Leeds star must be axed by Farke as teammate teaches him lesson in 0-0 v Hull

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has been forced to consider removing Willy Gnotta from the starting 11 after Crysania Summerville gave the Italian a good lesson against Hull City on Wednesday night.

Farke made an early, unforced change to replace Gnatton in the 21st minutes of the match at the Milton Keynes Arena.

Speaking after the game, Farke said it was a knock on the foot and he also rolled his ankle, which was quite painful and swollen.

“We’ll have to wait and see how it goes, hopefully, it’s not too bad,” Farke said, offering very little in the way of a timeline for his return.

It’s a huge blow for Farke that another injury has come so soon, and he’ll want to get his new club back on track as soon as possible. But Summerville deserves to be seen as a long-term replacement for Gnotta after coming on for him in the second half of the game. “Absolutely fantastic” was what Neville said of him on Sky Sports last season, so he’s definitely one of the best at the Championship level.

But Summerville did have a big impact when he was brought on, and the draw shouldn’t take away from how much of an impact he had. According to SofaScore, he had the best rating of all the players at the Stadium, even Liam Rosenior’s men, even though he played 21 minutes fewer than many of them.

He was a constant threat on the ball and was tackled three times in his 69 minutes. On the offensive, he had 3 key passes, 4 accurate crosses and 3 shots (2 on target). It’s hard to compare Summerville’s stats to Gnott’s, but you can see the difference when he was on the field.

He was also praised by Farke after the Hull game, who said he had a “perfect response” to being dropped and put in a “phenomenal shift” both in and out of the box.

Looking at the season as a whole, Summerville is second only to the Italian in terms of goals (1) and assists (1).

Of course, Farnese is a valuable player for Farke and, depending on the timing of his return from injury, will be a major factor in Leeds’ chances of getting back into the top flight.

Summerville, on the other hand, has been more impactful on the field.
