According to a source, Joao Palhinha’s new Fulham deal does not ensure that he will stay at the team after the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old Palhinha has since agreed to a new contract with Fulham that would keep him with the club through 2028, with an additional 12-month option.
The transfer to Bayern Munich on the final day of the transfer window fell through because Fulham were unable to find a replacement for the Portugal international, who also attracted serious interest from West Ham.
Bayern is reportedly still interested ahead of the January transfer window, but the London club will now demand a higher price to trade Palhinha after he agreed to a new contract.
No release clause was mentioned in the contract, according to a reliable source. On September 4, it was made public that Man United was also very interested in signing the Fulham midfielder during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils balked at the Cottagers’ demands for Palhinha, but ultimately decided to sign Sofyan Amrabat on a loan-to-buy agreement.
The Fulham player has already made four appearances for the new campaign and scored in last month’s 2-2 away draw at Arsenal for the London team.
Palhinha participated in 40 games across all leagues last season as Marco Silva’s team won the Premier League’s 10th-place trophy.
The Cottagers acquired the aggressive midfielder from Sporting CP in 2022 for an allegedly low fee of around £20 million.
