Palmer said in a statement on September 19 that Leeds United will reportedly consider offers for goalkeeper Illan Meslier in January.
“Leeds were surprised that he didn’t move in the summer transfer window, though they were quite relaxed as they had already signed his replacement, Karl Darlow.
“Karl signed from Newcastle in the belief that he would be their No. 1 goalkeeper. Leeds would be looking for a fee of £15-20million for the goalkeeper, where they can invest in other areas where Daniel Farke believes they’d need more.
“It’s a right call at this junction, as they’d already put measures in place and it further reduces the wage bill in accordance with what they’d like in the Championship.”
Leeds were ready for him to go
It was believed that Leeds had acquired their new starting goalkeeper when they paid roughly £400,000 to get Darlow from Newcastle during the summer transfer window, beating Bournemouth of the Premier League to his signature and enabling Meslier to leave.
No interest, however, was shown in the French goalkeeper, maybe as a result of the difficult finish to the season he had, which contributed to Leeds’ relegation and led to Sam Allardyce letting him go because of his variable performance levels.
Now, however, it appears the club will make another effort to pique interest in his signing, despite the fact that he has played so far this season, in an effort to raise money and reduce their high salary bill.
Darlow, who was initially projected to be the starting goalkeeper at Elland Road, will be hopeful that interest does develop in him. His current status as a reserve is a cause of unhappiness.
