‘Real livewire’: Media react to 22-year-old Tottenham player’s display on international duty

A 22-YEAR-OLD TOTTENHAM PLAYER’S DISPLAY WHILE ON INTERNATIONAL DUTY RECEIVES MEDIA REACTION

Brennan Johnson’s performance for Wales this week may have persuaded head coach Ange Postecoglou to select the former Nottingham Forest forward as the number nine given Richarlison’s current struggles for Tottenham Hotspur and Brazil.

Brennan Johnson was acquired by Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window from Nottingham Forest.

Brennan Johnson, a talented footballer for Wales and Tottenham Hotspur

Johnson is a very versatile forward who can operate across the front-line.

With Harry Kane having left for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, Richarlison has been playing as the main striker upfront.

The Brazil international is really struggling at the moment.

The 26-year-old is unable to score goals for Tottenham, and his international form with Brazil has also suffered.

On the other hand, Brennan Johnson is showing a lot of promise.

On Monday, the 22-year-old was in action for Wales against Latvia away from home in European Championship Qualifying Group D.

Wales won the match 2-0.

Johnson did not score, but the Welsh media complimented the youngster’s effort.

In a 3-4-2-1 system, the 22-year-old was in charge of Wales’ line.

WalesOnline gave Johnson a 7 out of 10 in its Player Ratings, despite the fact that he did not have the greatest of times playing up front by himself.

“A real livewire who had a difficult task playing up front on his own,” the report stated.

Had a strong early opportunity in a one-on-one match that he won.

“But overall play, both while racing in behind and with their backs to goal, was excellent.

Could have used more clinical language.

Johnson had 31 touches, attempted three dribbles, made one tackle, took five shots, of which one was on goal, played three critical passes, had pass accuracy of 75%, and added two crosses.

Johnson is a very talented player, and in the next weeks, he might take over as Tottenham’s primary number 9.
