Spence target

Daniel Farke wants to see more attacking flair from Djed Spence as he continues to adjust to life at Leeds United. Spence received his first start in white last weekend against Sheffield Wednesday after completing his loan transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in the dying days of the summer transfer window.

Spence had gone the better part of five months without kicking a competitive ball before moving to West Yorkshire, so Farke was really pleased with what he saw from Spence. However, given that Spence remained at Thorp Arch throughout the international break, the German will have worked diligently with him to convey his message and assist him fulfill the demands he expects of his right-back, with attack being viewed as the best form of defense on the right edge.

After Spence’s bow, Farke observed, “He needs a little bit of time to be then ready that he knows every single thing about us. I believe the international break and the extra time on the practice field will be incredibly good for him, but I also believe that he showed flashes.

“I would have preferred him to be sometimes even a little higher and to show us like his quality in one-on-one situations close to the opponent’s box, but he was also once good in recovery and repairing a mistake in order to avoid a counterattack because quite frequently, such a game develops in this manner.

Weston McKennie understands he has a point to make as he seeks to advance his career after a trying loan stint at Leeds United. The American failed to adjust and perform at his best at Elland Road after moving to Leeds on loan from Juventus in January.
