Wilfried Gnonto has been ranked among the top 100 young players in the world who are prepared to advance and join a “top club,” according to statistics that shows the young star’s eye-watering value.

The Italian has had a difficult summer. In the months following the Whites’ relegation in May, there were concerns over whether Gnonto would follow the huge exodus of first team talents who were leaving the club.

The 19-year-old’s refusal to go with the team for the league match in Birmingham last month seemed to be the tipping point, but he came back to the team with a bang by scoring in the exciting victory against Ipswich Town a fortnight later.

Leeds supporters have never questioned Gnonto’s ability on the field, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to find that data gathered by the CIES Football Observatory has identified the winger as a potential top division star.

The Switzerland-based research team ranked the top 100 players born in 2002 or later who are not currently playing in one of Europe’s top five divisions according to their preparedness to step up and play for a top club using statistics to compile the list.

Only Gnonto, who is ranked 81st out of 100 players, represents Leeds United on the list, along with a few other Championship freshmen. The top ranked English player is Gavin Bazunu of Southampton, who is ranked ninth overall. Callum Doyle, a defender on loan from Leicester City, is ranked twenty-first overall.

An experience score out of 100 is calculated based on a player’s level of experience during the previous year, taking into account both playing time and the competitiveness of the games played.

Antonio Silva of Benfica, who has a score of 75.9 and a worth estimated at £102.5 million, is at the top of the list. For context, Gnonto received a 46.9 and had a $41.9 million value.
