Big injuring blow for Ange Postecoglou and Spurs as £42.5m star gets injured on international duty Football: Report

Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero has a minor calf injury and is questionable for Argentina’s match against Bolivia, according to Argentine journalist Luis Fregossi.

Under Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season. In the first four games of the Premier League season, the center-back has already scored twice.

He recently participated in the entire 90 minutes of the 1-0 triumph over Ecuador in a World Cup qualifying match, but according to Fregossi, he is questionable for the match against Bolivia after suffering a minor calf injury.

In the following 24 hours, the £42.5 million star will be evaluated, and a choice will be made as to whether he departs or returns to England.

Injury blow

With 7 goals allowed in 4 games this season, Spurs have had an average defensive record, but Romero is still a crucial component of their strategy. He is a highly capable starter in the middle of the defense.

Therefore, it would be awful news for the London club if he were hurt. This month, Spurs lost Davinson Sanchez to Galatasaray, leaving them with the center-back choices of Ashley Phillips and Eric Dier.

Dier has not been included in the matchday squads, while Phillips is yet to play in a competitive game for the club. Since the beginning of the new campaign, he has fallen completely out of favor.

In order to avoid a rough road ahead, Spurs will be hoping that Romero will be healthy following the international break. They have two challenging league games left after hosting Sheffield United.

After playing Arsenal away from home, Postecoglou’s team will host Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Those two games may determine whether they are genuine top-4 contenders.

In the following 24 hours, we should get more information about Romero’s status. If Argentine determines he is not fit to play in the upcoming World Cup qualifier, Spurs may recall him.
