What Fabio Paratici said about Pape Matar Sarr after signing him for Tottenham in 2021 is now very interesting

After acquiring the midfielder back in 2021, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Fabio Paratici referred to Pape Matar Sarr as “one of the most talented” young players in Europe.

It’s safe to say that until moving to North London two years ago, many Tottenham supporters would not have known Sarr.

The midfielder was acquired by Paratici for about £15 million from Ligue 1 team Metz.

The international player from Senegal, who was only 18 at the time, was immediately returned to his former team on a season-long loan deal.

But immediately after signing the young player, Paratici made a bold assertion about him, calling him one of Europe’s most exciting talents.

What Paratici said about Sarr back in 2021

The former Tottenham director of football added, “I think Pape is one of the most talented players in Europe.

Our responsibility is to consider not just tomorrow but also possible future dates, such as next year. We made a tremendous signing, in my opinion. Many teams were interested in signing (him), and since this is a topic of discussion throughout Europe, we made a great signing.

“He needs to gain experience, play in games, stay with one team, and play regularly – a great investment for the Club, and a great vision for the future.” in The Evening Standard’s quotation.

Given Sarr’s unknown skills, Tottenham fans could be excused for treating Paratici’s remarks with a grain of salt.

The 20-year-old, who started three straight games with James Maddison and Yves Bissouma this season, has greatly improved under Ange Postecoglou.

Under Antonio Conte, Sarr did put on a few impressive performances in the previous campaign, particularly at the San Siro in the Champions League.

After that, he was barely given another shot, but he seized Postecoglou’s new opportunity with both hands.

This season, the Senegalese midfielder has been a standout for Spurs. He was especially brilliant in the 2-0 victory over Manchester United, when he also scored his first goal for the team.

Sarr’s Premier League career is still in its infancy, but he already appears to be a great talent, and Paratici’s assessments of the teenager are encouraging.
