West Ham United has thus far been one of the Premier League’s biggest surprises, going unbeaten through their first four games while also overcoming Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Hammers merit praise for their performances on the field, but it’s important to remember how good they were during the summer transfer window, when they made excellent use of the reported £105 million windfall from the sale of Declan Rice.

Even if the window is already closed, West Ham can still benefit from adding one more reinforcement. The London club is apparently considering a certain attacking midfielder.

Spending the Rice money wisely, West Ham brought in a total of five reinforcements, with Ajax star Mohammed Kudus being one of the most notable additions. Mohammed Kudus scored 18 goals and provided assists on an additional seven for the Dutch powerhouses previous season.

James Ward-Prowse, meantime, has had a strong start to life in Claret and Blue, contributing to three goals and one assist in four outings for his new team.

David Moyes may be able to lead the Hammers out of the craziness of relegation battles and back to the comforts of mid-table and above by making sure his team has the necessary depth to compete even in the face of potential injuries. Jesse Lingard might be useful in this situation.

The midfielder, who was made a free agent by Nottingham Forest at the end of last season, has been training with the London club since mid-August, according to The Athletic in the past 48 hours, and West Ham are still considering signing their former loanee on a permanent deal, adding that a move could happen at any time.

According to The Athletic, Moyes commented on Lingard, saying:

“Jesse is doing well and is regaining his shape.

But there won’t be a Jesse talk just yet. We will act when we are prepared, but he is working hard and displaying a terrific attitude toward his work. Getting him back into shape has taken some time.

Should West Ham sign Jesse Lingard?

West Ham may be able to help Lingard rediscover his best form after he failed to score a single Premier League goal for Nottingham Forest previous season. West Ham has a history of doing just that.

While on loan at West Ham for the second part of the 2020–21 campaign, Lingard came out of nowhere to score nine goals and provide assists for another five, totaling 14 goal involvements in just 16 games. According to the statistics, Lingard was one of the best performers in the Premier League while on loan under Moyes.

It would be a risky move for the Hammers to sign their former loanee for nothing, but if they could get him back to his best, they might have found one of the season’s greatest deals.
