Eric Dier has been informed by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy that he is still free to leave the team if he can get himself in order, and that a January departure or even an imminent departure is possible for the out-of-favor player.

The adaptable 29-year-old joined Spurs in 2014 after moving there from Sporting Lisbon. In his tenth season at the club in north London, Dier has made 361 appearances, scored 13 goals, and weathered numerous management changes.

However, since Ange Postecoglou’s hiring, the former England player has fallen very far down the pecking order, and Dier has yet to play for the Australian coach this year.

To that end, according to The Athletic, Postecoglou and Levy allegedly told Dier they are open to receiving offers for his services this summer. With only nine months left on his contract, Dier will be able to move away on a free transfer by the summer of 2019.

Spurs did everything they could to try to unload the player before the window closed in an effort to reverse that loss, but time and a lack of interested parties derailed that strategy.

In fact, Spurs attempted to use Dier as a makeweight for Lloyd Kelly, the defender from Bournemouth they wanted to sign on the final day of the transfer window.

Dier has been informed in no uncertain terms that his time as a player for Tottenham is over after Fulham also turned down the opportunity to sign the defender or defensive midfielder.

With numerous other transfer windows, like Turkey and Saudi Arabia, still available, Dier might still finalize a move abroad.

But in all honesty, Spurs are now considering selling the star during the January transfer window.

In order to connect with another club, the player will probably need to call his agent on the phone.

With a salary of £85,000 a week, Dier will most likely have to accept a decrease in personal terms with his next move, unless the opportunity for a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia arises.

He may have lost ground since his name was frequently connected to hefty offers from Manchester United.

The athlete still has a lot to offer, though. Dier has, for the most part, been a model of consistency throughout the years, even though he may not be in Postecoglou’s plans.

He may not be quick enough to play as a modern center back, but he can still contribute as a holding defensive midfielder or in the midst of a back three.

Dier can look back on several outstanding years of service for Spurs wherever he goes next. The 29-year-old played a total of 361 times and made 49 appearances for England. His final cap was in 2022, therefore it now appears doubtful that he will live to be fifty.
