As serious negotiations with Werder Bremen begin, Leeds United and Ilia Gruev reach a personal agreement.Ryan Taylor reports that Leeds United and Ilia Gruev have now reached a personal agreement as they get close to signing the Werder Bremen midfielder.
On Thursday, August 31, a journalist for The Express tweeted that Gruev, 23, is getting closer to moving to Elland Road as Leeds and Werder are nearing an agreement on a transfer fee.
The two clubs are reportedly “finalising potential add-ons” and talking about a payment plan for the £4.2 million contract.
With Gruev, Leeds essentially have a new midfielder, and it appears that the entire transaction is now a formality.
The international player from Buglaria is scheduled to have a physical with the Whites in the next 24 hours and finalise his transfer, according to Thursday’s report by The Athletic’s Phil Hay.
And now, with the alleged agreement of personal terms, everything should go without incident, barring any unforeseen issues à la Dan James.
Gruev will provide a lot of experience to a position on the field where Leeds currently lacks it.
Gruev, who is only 23 years old, has already played in 62 senior matches, 33 Bundesliga games, and earned eight Bulgarian caps.
The defensively-minded midfielder, who was born in Sofia, will probably start for Leeds once he gets used to life in West Yorkshire.
While everyone can agree that Archie Gray, who is only 17 years old, is a huge talent, he shouldn’t really be playing every week. Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu have been playing in the center for the majority of this season.
