Following Kane’s departure, the North Londoners were obligated to acquire a new attacker this summer, and the Nottingham Forest player was seen as an excellent choice.
Johnson is reportedly Ange Postecoglou’s top target, but yesterday Tottenham decided to make a surprise deal to sign Ansu Fati from Barcelona.
A deal even appeared to be close, but Brighton jumped in at the eleventh hour, and it now appears that they will sign the young Spaniard.
The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham is still interested in the ‘devastating’ Johnson and that they plan to make a last-minute offer to get him before the transfer window closes tomorrow.
Although Brentford is allegedly still in the running, if Spurs splash the cash, they may be the favorites to sign him.
Brennan Johnson is an excellent athlete.
Yes, he doesn’t have the same buzz as Ansu Fati, who was once dubbed the “new Lionel Messi,” but the 22-year-old is very familiar with the Premier League and would need considerably less time to adapt to life at Spurs.
According to the source, Brentford is back in the running after pulling out of the agreement, which makes things more difficult for Tottenham as deadline day approaches.
But if Spurs match Forest’s asking price, they ought to be able to land their target.

Tanguy Ndombele’s two other potential exit routes, according to Ange Postecoglou, have come to a standstill. As a result, Tottenham and Inter Milan are in talks about a surprise agreement to bring the midfielder to the San Siro.
The French midfielder, 26, who joined Tottenham for £54 million from Lyon in the summer of 2019, is still the club’s most expensive acquisition to date. Unfortunately, the seven-time Les Bleus cap player has rarely displayed the kind of form that led Daniel Levy to make a large investment in him four summers prior.
Indeed, it appears that Ndombele, who still has two years left on his contract, will leave north London for yet another loan transfer after spending last season with Napoli as well.
The midfield star will make the Italians his most recent club after spending time at his old team Lyon in the 2021–2022 campaign.
Tottenham would ideally like to transfer the midfielder, whose performances haven’t impressed any of the club’s managers.
In fact, Levy believed he had discovered the solution when Napoli agreed to sign Ndombele with a purchase option last summer. However, despite Ndombele playing 40 times as they won their first Serie A championship in 33 years, the Italians allowed that option expire.
Spurs thought they had secured long-term suitors for the player throughout the course of this summer, although at a significantly reduced price. First up, it was rumored that Ndombele was on his way to Turkish champions Galatasaray after several meetings.
However, after negotiations broke down over the refusal to agree on a permanent selling option, Genoa, a different Serie A team, opened discussions about the prospect of signing Ndombele on a loan.
Ndombele heading for Inter Milan move
Ndombele, though, rejected the move to the Italian team, and that move has also fallen through in the last 24 hours.
Their failure, it appears, may have been caused by Inter Milan’s late interest in signing him. Ndombele is a top possibility for a late-season transfer, according to the Daily Mail, and Simone Inzaghi’s team is eager to improve its midfield options.
According to reports, Inzaghi has concerns about Stefano Senisi’s dependability and wants Ndombele to be added as insurance and competition.
They are also considered as the far more desirable alternative for his acquisition given that they can provide the player with Champions League football.
As a result, negotiations to transfer Ndombele to the San Siro on a season-long first loan are already well along.
Although the 2022 Italian Champions would prefer an agreement that allows them the option to buy, Tottenham will want to include an obligation to make the deal permanent next summer.
Given the way Napoli withdrew this summer, it makes sense that Levy would want to ensure a sale. However, Inter is the one with all the cards, so it’s possible that a deal will be made more in their favor.
Postecoglou expecting Ndombele exit at Spurs
Postecoglou acknowledges that he anticipates Ndombele’s issue to be clarified soon.

In that sector, competition has been rather fierce. Many of those issues should be fixed this week, I believe.
The contentious midfielder has played 91 times for Tottenham since joining the team, contributing to eight additional goals and assisting on another ten. While not a horrible record, the star’s overall work ethic and fit for the Premier League have been questioned by a number of Spurs managers who have all had trouble engaging the player.
Spurs will now hope that a deal to send their club-record acquisition to Inter is finalized before the transfer window ends on Friday at 11 p.m.
