Tottenham: Spurs in the race for Andrea Cambiaso
A number of English clubs are fighting it out for the Juventus defender.
HIGHLIGHTS
According to sources from Italy, Tottenham Hotspur is now competing with a number of other Premier League clubs to acquire Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso.
What’s the latest Tottenham transfer news?
Tottenham left defender Since he hasn’t played for the north Londoners since April 2022, Sergio Reguilon is now a target for Manchester United, thus Ange Postecoglou may need to consider adding more defenders to the full-back position.
With the addition of a new winger on the horizon, Spurs appear to be more interested in bolstering other areas for the time being. Additionally, there is an increasing likelihood that they will prevail in the pursuit of Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest before the transfer deadline.
According to a report from Football Insider, the Lilywhites are in the lead to sign the Welshman, despite Chelsea’s interest. The Tricky Trees are hoping to rake in at least £40 million from his sale, which would set a new club record.
Tottenham has money put aside to pursue a replacement for Harry Kane, and they are also interested in bringing in a new center-back after identifying players like Tosin Adarabioyo, Clement Lenglet, and Perr Schuurs as potential candidates.
Spurs are reportedly interested in players who can play a variety of roles and may be eager to sign a versatile player in the final week of the transfer season. Cambiaso, who can play five positions, has recently been linked to a move to Tottenham.
The Lilywhites are in the running for the Italian, but they will have to outbid Nottingham Forest and Liverpool, with the Merseyside club now in the lead, according to a report from CalcioMercato (via Sport Witness).
Despite having a contract until 2027, Juventus has thought about allowing the 23-year-old leave this summer. He may be available on a permanent deal or a loan.
But now that the Juventus star has managed to earn a spot in the starting lineup, Massimiliano Allegri might be reluctant to let him go.
Who is Andrea Cambiaso?
The eight-time Italy U21 international has earned his way to the top by working hard. He played for teams like Albissola 2010 and US Alessandra Calcio 1912 in Serie D before quickly making it to Serie A.
In addition to praising the Genoa-born defender for his “rapid rise” to the top division of Italian football after playing in Serie D in 2019, CBS’ Matteo Bonetti called him a “versatile” player who could fill a variety of roles.
The former Genoa player has spent the majority of his career playing central midfield, but Postecoglou may find it very handy to have him as a backup option because he can also play on the wing and at fullback.
Although there is a lot of interest from the Premier League, Cambiaso has had a strong start to the season and contributed with an assist in Juventus’ 3-0 win against Udinese last week. As a result, it seems unlikely that they would be prepared to let him depart.
