Fulham have made an approach over a move for Atalanta forward Duvan Zapata after a transfer elsewhere fell through.

Are Fulham signing a striker?

After defeating Everton 1-0 in the first weekend of the 2017 Premier League campaign, Marco Silva’s team suffered a 3-0 loss to Brentford at home.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, a star striker for the Cottagers, left for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia for £50 million. The forward scored a header on his debut.

Because of this, Fulham, despite signing Raul Jimenez from Wolves, appears to be looking to replace Mitrovic before the deadline of September 1. They have also been linked with a move for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun.

The USA international, though, seems to be getting closer to a transfer to AS Monaco. Juventus’ Moise Kean was another player who had been linked, but Silva has dispelled that rumor while also outlining his worries this late in the transfer window.

“Moise Kean is not the answer for us, no. I prefer not to discuss players who are not our players. Juventus’ Moise Kean is a footballer. But I can say with certainty that he is not the player we need.

“I won’t respond to your question concerning Mitrovic because doing so would show a lack of respect for the guys who are now on our team. He adopted my ideas and put them into action.

“It would be easier if I had more time. Currently, at this point in the mark, it is really challenging. The issue with waiting until the final week of the market is this. The situation we are in is not ideal.

It now seems that the club’s pursuit for a striker has sparked interest in Zapata.

The Daily Mail claims that Fulham has contacted Atalanta over a deal for Zapata. According to the source, the striker was supposed to travel to AS Roma on loan, but he raised reservations, and the deal fell through at the last minute.

Zapata is rumored to be considering staying at Atalanta, but Fulham are interested and have made their move.

Who is Duvan Zapata?

Zapata has spent the majority of his club career in Italy and is a pure center-forward. Over the past ten years, the 32-year-old has played for Napoli, Udinese, Sampdoria, and Atalanta, totaling 283 Serie A matches and 108 goals.

Internationally, Zapata represents Colombia, and Papu Gomez, a former teammate, has referred to him as a “beast” and “like a train” for his physicality.

Because he’s a beast and it hurts, there are moments when I don’t even want to approach him during a match. When he’s in good spirits, he moves like a locomotive; just throw the ball his way and say “ciao!”

With time running out, it’s likely that Fulham will get in touch with a number of targets about potential moves to Craven Cottage. Zapata, an established and seasoned striker in Italy, might be one to keep an eye on in the last days of the window.
